"Kids Are Our Business"

Do The Right Thing

The Juvenile Justice Task Force in conjunction with the Niagara County Sheriff's Department and the Niagara Police Athletic League will be conducting the "Do The Right Thing" program.  The program is designed  to  positively impact  the youth  of Niagara  County by publicly recognizing children who distinguish themselves through their behavior and by establishing themselves as role models for their peers.

Every other month up to 80 children from the Niagara County area, on the basis of their examplary behavior/attitude will be nominated by teachers, police officers, youth leaders, and the public for the "Do The Right Thing" award.  Eight finalists will be selected from this group.  In order to reach as many children as possible and to reinforce their positive behavior, the first 80 nominees each month will receive certificates of recognition and a t-shirt.  The eight monthly finalists will also receive a plaque, incentive prize package, and recognition in the "Do The Right Thing" public service announcements in local newspapers and TV.

It is critical that local people participate in this program to maintain its success.  Please nominate a child or children from your school whose behavior or attitude deserves special recognition.  A specific accomplishment or note-worthy deed is not a prerequisite for nomination.  A child may be nominated simply because of a cooperative attitude toward fellow students, rededication to their schoolwork, or other behavior which makes them a good role model for their peers.

We also encourage schools and agencies to make the "Do The Right Thing" program a visible salute to the young people who are nominated by making space available on bulletin boards, PA announcements, and a corresponding t-shirt day and/or assembly.  Help us get the message across: Good Kids are newsworthy and positive behavior can be "very cool."

Thank you for helping us reach out to the youth of our community through your assistance with the "Do The Right Thing" program.
