The eleven high schools in Niagara County, plus Niagara/Orleans BOCES, Albion, Grand Island, Cardinal O’Hara

and Tonawanda will each select six honorees, one from each category.

 The “Niagara PAL Fine Arts Awards” honors around 100 seniors and their parents

in salute of the “family team” effort.


Awards

Each student will receive an award recognizing their accomplishments. In addition, a program book is printed with a biographical sketch of each student.

Portfolio/Audition Requiements

Visual Art 2D Application Portfolio Requirement

 Each student in the visual art category must submit a portfolio consisting of 3 works of art which best demonstrates the student’s skill using any art media (please do not include any digital photography work in the Art portfolio).  Work included in the portfolio should be an original work created by the student. Portfolio Submission Requirements:
  • Artwork must be photographed and submitted in either a PDF format or JPG format on a CD-Rom
  • The CD-Rom must be labeled with your name and school district
  • File size should be no larger than 5MB
  • No images may be altered electronically

Visual Art 3D Application Portfolio Requirement

 Each student in the visual art category must submit a portfolio consisting of 3 works of art which best demonstrates the student’s skill using any art media (please do not include any digital photography work in the Art portfolio).  Work included in the portfolio should be an original work created by the student. Portfolio Submission Requirements:

Digital Art Application Portfolio Requirement

Each student in the digital art category must submit a portfolio consisting of 3 works of art which best demonstrates the student’s skill in digital media.  Work included in the portfolio should be an original work created by the student. Portfolio Submission Requirements:

  • Artwork must be submitted in either a PDF format or JPG format on a CD-Rom
  • The CD-Rom must be labeled with your name and school district
  • File size should be no larger than 5MB
  • Any non-original imagery should be altered in such a way as to become an original image.

Instrumental Music Application Audition Requirement

 Each student in the instrumental music category must submit a completed PAL biographical program sheet.  Each student may also submit supporting information regarding their performance in their primary instrument (copies of solo adjudication sheets, awards received, etc. – SUBMITTING THIS INFORMATION IS OPTIONAL).  Each student in the instrumental music category will be invited to audition before a panel of music teachers.  The selection of music should demonstrate expertise in the student’s primary instrument.  Each audition will last 5 minutes (if the music selection lasts longer than 5 minutes, please pare it down and perform a section that will highlight your talent).  An accompanist is not necessary.  Please have two copies of the music that will be performed (one for the student and one for the judges).

Theater Art Application Portfolio Requirement

 Each student in the theater art category must submit a completed PAL biographical program sheet.  Each student may also submit supporting information regarding his or her performance in theater.  Each student in the theater art category will be invited to audition before a panel of theater art teachers and professionals.  The selection performed should demonstrate expertise in the student’s theater talents.  Each audition will last 5 minutes (if the selection last longer than 5 minutes, please pare it down and perform a selection that will highlight your talent).

Fine Arts Awards Criteria

Niagara PAL Art Award 2D

The Art Award is given to a high school senior adhering to a high level of artistic accomplishment.  The basic criteria are participation and excellence.

Niagara PAL Art Award 3D

The Art Award is given to a high school senior adhering to a high level of artistic accomplishment.  The basic criteria are participation and excellence.

Niagara PAL Theater Award

The Drama Award is given to a high school senior adhering to a high level of theatrical accomplishment.  The basic criteria are participation and excellence.

Niagara PAL Instrumental Music Award

The Instrumental Music Award is given to a high school senior adhering to a high level of musical accomplishment.  The basic criteria are participation and excellence.

Niagara PAL Vocal Music Award

The Vocal Music Award is given to a high school senior adhering to a high level of musical accomplishment.  The basic criteria are participation and excellence.

Niagara PAL Digital Art Award

The award is given to a high school senior adhering to a high level of multi-media (web, video, electronic media) accomplishment.  The basic criteria are community service participation and excellence in multi-media.
